2013 National Jamboree
2013 National Jamboree
Theme: Go Big, Get Wild
To all Central Florida Council Scouts and Venturers:
One year ago Central Florida’s 2010 National Jamboree Continge nt of 280 scouts and scouters boarded a big yellow bus (known in the bus biz as a “motor coach”), and headed north for a way-cool adventure. We took a huge truckload of camping equipment, and filled the belly of the bus with Contico foot lockers full of stuff for 7 troops of 40 people spending 10 days at Ft. AP Hill for the 2010 National Jamboree. We saw 44,000+ other scouts and scouters in attendance as depicted by the arena show in the graphic above.
At the Jamboree we did some whitewater rafting, rappelled walls, traded patches, saw two totally amazing arena shows, traded patches, earned some merit badges, traded patches, mountain biking, mountain boarding, school bus riding, geocaching, leatherwork, slid down a huge waterslide, viewed a spy exhibit and bunches of other displays, traded patches, shopped the trading post, and walked and walked and walked everywhere. Oh, and did I say we traded some remarkable musical guitar patches? And when we stepped off the yellow bus to a grand welcome home reception, the smiles were still as wide as when we departed. Two hundred and eighty scouts and scouters from throughout the council became close friends and shared a totally awesome experience.
The adventure lasted 10 days, but the memories will last a lifetime. Even though it was one year ago, it’s over, right? NOPE!
Get ready for the 2013 National Jamboree, another way-cool, but totally different adventure waits.
The new Jamboree location is The Bechtel Summit on the New River Gorge in West Virginia. We get to be the opening act for this new and breathtaking BSA property. You may have heard of the Summit. T he OA’s SummitCorps is already there blazing new trails in the adjacent National Forest for scouts and all to enjoy. If you’ve ever been at summer camp at Rainey Mountain, Woodruff, Daniel Boone or a few others in the North Carolina/ North Georgia hills, then you’ve seen the kind of mountainous scenery that’s waiting for you at the Summit. Only bigger. Much bigger.
For a glimpse at the Summit, check out this web site: www.summitblog.org. To register for the 2013 Jamboree, visit Central Florida Council’s 2013 National Jamboree website (http://www.cfc2013nationaljamboree.org) and access the “Registration” section. On this page, you will find a link to dow nload our registration guide. This guide contains step by step instructions with screen shots of the National registration site www.bsajamboree.org. The “Registration Guide” on the CFC 2013 Jamboree website has all of the pre-requisites, age/rank guidelines, registration instructions, payment forms, fee schedule, etc. It’s the best resource to ensure your application goes through with no issues.
You can be a part of the Summit’s legacy by attending the first event held at this new and permanent Jamboree location. NOW be the first to go to the Summit and establish a legacy.
Registration is open now and will be filling fast. Central Florida Council has been allocated 7 troops and 1 crew which mean there are 288 youth spots from a pool of several thousand scouts/venturers eligible to apply. As we did for 2010, once we fill our spots we will maintain a waiting list. The spots will be filled on a first-come-first serve basis. To secure a spot a scout/venturer must register via the national website (www.bsajamboree.org) which will then route the completed registration to Central Florida Council. As part of the registration process you will print out a “Request to Attend” form which needs to be signed by your Scoutmaster or Crew Advisor. Lastly, a $100 deposit payable to Central Florida Council will complete the registration process. Again, the “Registration Guide” on the CFC 2013 Jamboree website is your best resource to make things go smoothly as it has all of the pre-requisites, age/rank guidelines, registration instructions, payment forms, fee schedule, etc.
C entral Florida Council Camporee – “with a Jamboree Flair!”:
One more item of interest for each of you is this years Central Florida Council Camporee which is December 2nd-4th at the Scout Ranch. The theme is “Fun on a human scale, with a Jamboree flair!”. The “Jamboree flair” applies to each of you that may be interested in joining us in 2013. The camporee will have a circus style tent set up as a midway area where we will be hosting National Jamboree activities exposing more members of our council to what the National Jamboree is. We will have a series of videos and photo slide shows from the 2010 Jamboree playing throughout the day. We will have a memorabilia section where we will be showcasing many of the patch sets acquired by Central Florida Jamboree scouts. There will be Jamboree staff and I’m sure a bunch of 2010 Jamboree scouts present to answer any question s you might have. We hope to see you there and participating in this fun event.
We hope to see all of you there! We are looking forward to another adventure with a great group of scouts/venturers.
